About This Project

Harry Kerker’s Day of the Dead series includes Sisters Catrinas. Also known as  Hermana Catrinas, is described by Kerker as obviously two affluent girls, wearing matching white fur stoles. They were meticulously dressed and purposely so, to have their picture taken during Day of the Dead.

Check out the shoes and the matching dresses and the rinestone crown. In Mexico unlike the US, Dia de los Muertos Day of the Dead is not meant to be a spooky holiday and it’s not Halloween. Those who celebrate it believe that at midnight on October 31, the souls of all deceased children come down from heaven and reunite with their families on November 1, and the souls of deceased adults come visit on November 2.

There is a lot of candy given out for sure, but the main goal of the kids is to have the best costume and being photographed is the ultimate complement!
